This Doggy recipe is inspired by my recent obsession with having Buddha bowls for lunch everyday.  I think it’s due to the fact that I like ALL foods and they contain so much variety and texture.

Not one to be left out of a trend, Willow P Bear insisted on a doggy recipe for a buddha bowl of her own.

Whenever I cook for Willow, I normally mix everything all together, so I was interested to see if she’d go straight for the good stuff and dodge the veg, but being the ultimate Wholesome Hound, she went straight to the courgette!!

This doggy buddha bowl has it all. Oily fish, low fat dairy, eggs, seeds – pumpkin seeds in particular are great for our pooches – read here – and veggies. It was also a great way for me to use up some left over roast sweet potato – helping with my zero food waste drive!

The recipe below got me 6 meals for Willow, who is just under 9kg. For a rough guide on how much to feed your dog when either home cooking or on a raw diet, a quick rule of thumb is 2% of their bodyweight. I do tend to give Wllow more than this however, as she is so active.

 

If you are wondering where Willows personalised bowl is from, I bought it from Chow bella and it’s one of their “ear free zone” ones, which are perfect for any spaniels out there who normally get dinner in their ears!

Ingredients

 

  •  3 x tins of pink salmon (remove bones)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 x 300g tub of  cottage cheese
  •  1  x sweet potato
  •  1 carrot
  • 1 courgette 
  •  2 handfuls of pumpkin seeds
  • 1 tsp coconut oil (if roasting sweet potatoes)

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees if roasting sweet potato 

Step 2

Peel and dice the potato, place on a baking tray with a teaspoon of coconut oil (spread it around on the potato) and black pepper. Roast for 15 mins or till soft and leave to cool

Step 3

Scramble the eggs in a little coconut oil or olive oil and leave to cool

Step 4

Peel the carrot and grate as well as the courgette and place in a bowl

Step 5

Add the cooled egg and potato as well as all the other ingredients to the bowl and mix all together, cover and store in the fridge for up to 5 days. Alternatively, if you want to present buddha bowl style, store all the components seperately and place a portion of each into our pooches bowl come dinner time.
