About this Recipe

I’ve always been obsessed with Banana Bread. It misses out very slightly to a Lemon Drizzle in terms of all time fave! So when it was Bread week on GBBO It was the perfect choice to take a classic Banana Bread and make it Doggy Friendly.

As a reminder though – every single one of my recipe’s are totally fine for human consumption. Making them for dogs means they have to have very low sugar (I use honey in some) and also no added salt, making it a perfect choice for all the family!

A note about the nuts, most peanuts in the supermarkets are high in salt and not suitable for dogs. Look for unsalted roasted ones – I used these ones.

A note on Buckwheat Flour. I use this a lot in my recipes as it has more fibre, protein and vitamins that normal flour. However you can use plain or wholemeal if you prefer

  • 280g Buckwheat Flour
  • 2 tsp Baking Powder
  • 45g Unsalted Roasted Peanuts
  • 1 ripe Banana
  • 6 Tbsp Olive Oil – A little extra for greasing
  • 2 Large Eggs
  • 100ml Water
  • 3 tbsp Runny Honey (If you want to make it Vegan, switch for Maple syrup)

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 180. Grease and line your loaf tin. I use the handy liners such as these

Step 2

Mash the Banana with a fork

Step 3

Add the mashed Banana. Eggs, Honey (or Syrup), Oil and Water to a mixing bowl and whisk till combined

Step 4

In a large mixing bowl, mix the peanuts, baking powder and flour together

Step 5

Fold the wet ingredients into the flour mix and gently fold until mixed well

Step 6

Spoon the mix into your loaf tin and place in the oven for 40-50 minutes. Or until a skewer comes out clean

Step 8

Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before slicing and serving

Step 8

This loaf freezes well. Ensure you fully defrost before serving
